Ifeoma Ezekwo, M.D.
about the author
Dr. Ifeoma Ezekwo, M.D., is a physician double board
certified in Ophthalmology and Internal Medicine. She received her
training in both specialties from College of Physician and Surgeons
of Columbia University in New York City. She has been in private
practice since 1983 in New York, where she has a special interest
in the care of diabetic, hypertensive, and glaucoma patients.
Dr. Ezekwo is the Surgeon Director of the Bronx Eye Institute and
Bronx Diabetes Center. She is also an attending physician and surgeon
at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital, the Beth Israel Medical
Center, and Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center of New York Medical
College in New York.
Dr. Ezekwo participates in the American Academy of Ophthalmology-sponsored
prevention and educational programs, including Eye Care America
Diabetes Project and the Eye Care America Glaucoma Project. She
provides physician-to-physician publications on eye care, and promotes
physician-to-patient awareness.
In addition, Dr. Ezekwo is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Recently, she was awarded the American Medical Associations Three Year Physician Recognition Award with commendations for self-directed learning.
Dr. Ezekwo is the Founder/President/CEO of Global Eye Care, Inc., a nonprofit charitable organization that provides eye care and surgery to less privileged, vision-impaired people throughout the world, using volunteer eye surgeons, nurses, technicians, donated equipment, and health education in addition to awareness programs for the disadvantaged in the U.S.A. She is a strong advocate for regular eye care for diabetics and for screening at-risk groups for glaucoma.
Her passion is to impart proper knowledge to patients about their illnesses so they can become active participants in their own care. She advocates a balanced approach to medicine wherein conventional medicine is fully integrated with better lifestyle, good nutrition, nutritional supplements, and good mental and spiritual well-being. Dr. Ezekwo is married and has two sons.
